Hello My Name Is...

Michelle McGee

I am so thrilled to begin this school year 2018-2019 at Grove Valley as music teacher, chorus director, and MIDI instructor! My goal for each student is to discover the joy in music and to continue their musical gifts and talents into adulthood.

After graduating from Baylor University with a  Bachelor of Music Education in 1986, I taught elementary music in South Bend, Indiana  followed by nine years in Arlington, Texas. In 1991, I graduated from the University of North Texas in Denton with a Master of Music Education degree.

From 1997-2001, I taught music major courses and voice instruction at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri and Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri while teaching private voice and piano from my home studio.

Since my move to Oklahoma in 2001, I have taught at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Mid-Del Public Schools, and Yukon Public Schools. I spent 4 years at Deer Creek Elementary before opening Grove Valley in 2009.This is my 32nd year teaching music and it is my passion!

Students at Grove Valley experience a wide range of musical studies. Lessons include the study of pitch, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, harmony, melody, form and tempo. These concepts are experienced through singing, listening, movement, dance and classroom instruments.   The students are also taught musical history and the lives of composers. Every grade level performs a musical production during the year with costuming, scenery and choreography.

The Grove Valley Chorus is an extra -curricular club of 4th graders who rehearse twice a week before school. The chorus performs at nursing homes, shopping malls,  school assemblies and the state capitol.

MIDI for Kids is an after school keyboard and ukulele program offered to Grove Valley 1st-4th graders. It is an extra curricular class that teaches ear-training, improvisation, music reading, and ensemble playing. Enrollment is limited and is based on first come basis. Look for more information at www.midiforkids.com
